Origin & Appearance
The Calathea orbifolia comes from the tropical rainforests of South America, especially Bolivia. It belongs to the arrowroot family (Marantaceae) and is known for its large, round leaves with striking silvery-green stripes.
Its wavy-edged, broadly oval leaves can reach a diameter of up to 40 cm and give the plant a particularly elegant and decorative appearance. The undersides of the leaves are soft green and have a slightly shimmering texture depending on the light. The Calathea orbifolia grows bushy and can reach a height of around 60 to 80 cm. It rarely produces flowers, especially in its natural environment.

▪ Light: Prefers partially shaded to bright locations without direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause leaf burns.
▪ Water: Likes constant moisture, but avoid waterlogging! It is best to water with filtered or stale water, as it is sensitive to lime.
▪ Temperature: Ideal temperatures are between 18 and 26 °C. No drafts or temperatures below 15 °C.
▪ Humidity: Very high – at least 60% humidity required. Regular misting or a humidifier is recommended.
▪ Fertilization: From spring to autumn, apply a weak green plant fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks. Fertilize less frequently in winter.
