Origin & Appearance
The Calathea rufibarba comes from the warm, humid tropics of South America, especially the rainforests of Brazil. It belongs to the arrowroot family (Marantaceae) and is characterized by its unique foliage.
Its long, slender leaves have a wavy structure and a particularly soft, velvety surface, which has earned it the nickname "Furry Feather". The upper side of the leaves shines in a rich, glossy green, while the underside shines in a deep burgundy red to violet. With a height of up to 100 cm, it grows upright and bushy.

▪ Light: Prefers partially shaded to bright locations without direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can burn the sensitive leaves.
▪ Water: Loves consistent moisture, but not waterlogging. Use low-lime, stale or filtered water.
▪ Temperature: 18 to 26 °C is optimal. Temperatures below 15 °C should be avoided.
▪ Humidity: Very high – at least 60% humidity is required. Regular misting or a humidifier will help prevent brown leaf tips.
▪ Fertilization: From spring to autumn, apply a diluted green plant fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks. Fertilize hardly at all in winter.
