Origin & Appearance
The Pachira aquatica, known as the money tree, is native to the humid tropics of Central and South America, particularly countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Costa Rica. In the wild, it can grow up to 20 metres tall, but as a houseplant it usually reaches a height of 1-2 metres.
Typical of the money chestnut are its large, shiny green leaves, which are reminiscent of the palm of the hand. The plant often grows with a braided trunk, which gives it a particularly decorative appearance. This appearance, as well as its reputation as a lucky charm and symbol of prosperity, make it a popular plant in living spaces.
care instructions
▪ Light: Prefers bright, indirect light, but also tolerates partial shade. Direct midday sun should be avoided.
▪ Water: Water moderately – only water when the top layer of soil is dry. Avoid waterlogging!
▪ Temperature: 18–25 °C is ideal. It does not like drafts and cold temperatures below 12 °C.
▪ Humidity: Loves high humidity, so spray the leaves occasionally.
▪ Fertilization: From spring to autumn, apply liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks. Fertilize hardly at all in winter.
