Origin & Appearance

The Monstera deliciosa, also known as Swiss cheese plant, is native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, particularly Mexico, Panama and Colombia. It belongs to the Araceae family and owes its name "deliciosa" to the edible fruits it produces in its natural environment.

The Monstera deliciosa impresses with its large, shiny green leaves, which develop characteristic deep incisions and holes over time - a natural mechanism to better guide light through the canopy. In the wild, it can climb up to 20 meters high, while as a houseplant in pots it usually stays between 1.5 and 3 meters. It forms aerial roots that cling to supports such as moss sticks or trellises and support the absorption of nutrients.

▪ Light: Loves bright, indirect light, but also tolerates partial shade. Direct sun can burn the leaves.

▪ Water: Water moderately – the substrate should dry slightly before watering again. Avoid waterlogging!

▪ Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 18–28 °C, should not fall below 12 °C.

▪ Humidity: High humidity is ideal – regular spraying of the leaves promotes the health of the plant.

▪ Fertilization: During the growing season (spring to autumn) provide liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks.
